What is Clutter?

Office365 clutter feature helps to filter low priority emails based on understanding of your own actions taken on emails. It does machine learning to see what actions you take on emails messages. Example : If you keep ignoring an email from some sender, Clutter can understand that it is low priority and it puts it into low category and starts marking them as Clutter. The more you use the best experience you get.

By Default “Clutter” is turned on, If you don’t like this feature or don’t prefer anytime this can be turned off.

I find this as a great feature for better “Inbox Management” If we don’t manage our inbox properly Inbox becomes “Junk” just the name remains same as inbox 🙂

How to enable/disable as user?

If an individual user wants to enable/disable clutter, Just login to OWA and Click on “Gear” icon. The best thing is now, you can search which settings to be modified & it will show the exact settings option. I should say this is absolutely great thing and saves time.

Clutter

Just Right click on Email, You can move to Clutter and From Clutter folder if some mails marked by mistake you can mark it as “Non Clutter” by selecting “Move to Inbox”

How to disable Globally for all users?

For an organization those who prefer to disable this for all users can do in using powershell, Yes, another cool thing now clutter can be managed using Powershell.

  1. Connect to Exchange Online Powershell
  2. Run : Get-Mailbox -ResultSize Unlimited -Filter {RecipientTypeDetails -eq “UserMailbox”} | Set-Clutter -Enable $False

If you have outlook 2016 you can manage Clutter features using Outlook client itself.
